MOUNT ETNA AT THE DIORAMA.

A new picture, opened at the Diorama in the Regent's Park, represents Mount Etna. The spectator stands on the Southern declivity of Mount Taurus; the tall peaks of Taormina and Mole, to the right, the sea to the left; the great mountain in the middle distance. The scene is first viewed by the evening light; next by sunrise; night is renewed by the darkness of an eruption, the fire flares upwards from the crater, and lava winds its burning stream down the side of the mountain, seawards. The picture is on rather a small scale, but proportionately high in the finish: the effect is more natural than is usual with scenes in the open air, and the aspect of the fiery commotion is at once ingenious and grand.
