A liking for abroad
Sir: Whoever your correspondent, Myles Colshare, was writing about in the Spec- tator (Letters, 14 May) he was certainly not Writing about me. I have never ever said that 1 was proud never to have had a Passport and that I loathed abroad. I have had a passport since about 1948 and have taken holidays in European countries regularly. In the late Fifties, before becom- ing an MP, I travelled on a scholarship to America and have also visited Latin America, the Middle East and various other Parts of the world. I am a member of Labour's International Committee, chair- man of the Middle East and European Committees and a member of the Bureau of the European Socialist Parties.
Myles Colshare really should get his facts right before rushing into print. He is as wrong about my passport and attitude to abroad as he is on the other points he makes.
