Sir: The test of `explanation' is the possibility of prediction.

Knowledge of the properties of matter and the laws of physics makes it possible to predict the course of a physical happening. Nothing that we know of the physical universe would make it possible to predict the emergence of conscious mind. If Mr Allsop will meditate on the mystery of his own consciousness he may be led a step nearer to understanding why some of us believe in God.
