Last Saturday Chiang Kai-shek gave an official party in Peking.
The Times correspondent says that all the Envoys of the Powers whose Treaties had been denounced were present except the Japanese Minister, who refused to attend. The Japanese Minister when interviewed on the subject said that Japan would not submit to such treatment. The Chinese action was the more deplorable because Japan had already agreed conditionally to tariff autonomy and the abrogation of extra-territoriality in accordance with the decision of the International Commission. He added that if China really applied her regulations to the Japanese in China " regrettable consequences " would follow.
