Goodyear remembered
Sir: Alan Gibson (Notebook, 14 January) would be interested to hear from anyone who knew R. A. H. Goodyear. I can just remember him. A bachelor (I think, or he may have been a widower), he was writing his books here in Scarborough at the time when I was devouring them, half a century or so ago. They must have sold fairly well, because he went on churning them out, but I suspect he did not make much out of them.
At any rate, he was not above writing, under the pseudonym `Hapchance', a weekly column called Cameos, in the Scarborough paper.
