Mr. J. Barrett wants to open a pea and pie
shop in Pudsey, on the ground that there is at present no such shop in the borough. As far as that goes, I did not know there was any such shop in any borough, but I admit that the picture of Pudsey plaintive for peas and pies stirs the emotions. How, by the way, do I know all about this? Because a question has solemnly been asked about it in Parliament. The answer? Mr. Barrett has been granted his licence, so Pudsey will get its peas and pies. But what, anyway, is a pea-and-pie shop, and what else does it sell?
