Sir: Many thanks for John Linklater's 'Every granny a wanted
granny' which you published in The Spectator (July 13). It is the finest short appraisal of the way things have moved in the last decade here in Britain, and the parallel which cart be -seen with the way in which Germany moved in the same direction, under the Nazi regime.
The most appalling thing in our society today is the apparently wilful refusal to see and accept that we are in fact rapidly being pushed in the same way that, to their cost, others have gone before. Didn't someone once say that those who refuse to learn the lessons of history are condemned to relive them? Bernard Hills 184 Adlephi Street, Preston, Lancashire
