Bangladesh
Sir: In your comment (July 13) on the deteriorating state of affairs in Bangladesh, you write: "Unless stern measures are soon taken, it may be necessary for India again to intervene in the affairs of her new neighbour.
This abrasive and insensitive comment, I do hope, doesn't constitute a dismal revelation of the true status of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign state. If the independence ot Bangladesh is without substance in the sense that it rests upon the goodwill of India, does Shaikh Mujib' realise how tenuous are the foundations of his beloved Bangladesh? As to any intervention by India to 'normalise' conditions in Bangladesh, would it not be an act of spectacular dottiness, even for the Government of India, when you cannot step twice into the same river? That is what, I presume, you mean by "possibly catastrophic results."
