On Thursday a message from the Queen announcing the approaching

marriage of the Duke of Connaught with the Prin- cess Louise, third daughter of Prince Frederick Charles of Prussia, was considered in both Houses of Parliament. Lord Beaconsfield described the bride-elect as "distinguished for in- telligence and accomplishments, and a winning simplicity of thought and manner," and he praised the Duke of Connaught not only for his spotless life, but for his professional knowledge and energy as a soldier ; and then moved the address thanking the Queen for her Message, and declaring the intention of the House to concur in the measures to be proposed for making further provision for the Duke of Connaught and his wife. Lord Granville cordially concurred, and Lord Napier of Magdala added his testimony to the Duke's remarkable efficiency as a soldier.
