Wine of the Week
NOT so much a wine, though, as a bottle— the imperial-pint bottle in which the old- established • but '.forward-looking firm of Berry Brothers in St; James's Street is now offering its Bordeaux rosé (6s. 3d. in the imperial pint; 8s, a bottle). It is about three-quarters the capacity Of the normal wine bottle.
I have long lamented the virtual disappearance of the imperial pint of champagne—just right for two for luncheon, for half a bottle is always too little for two, a whole bottle very occasionally too, much—and I am glad to sec not only this new venture of Berry Brothers, but also to observe that .a lot of firms are now selling the various EMB Beaujolais in the traditional mallet-shaped Beaujolais pot, which is also three-quarters of a bottle: Morgan Furze in Brick Street are among those that stock the four qualities -Beaujolais, Fleurie, Julienas and Moulin-:1-Vent----at from 7s, to 9s. 3d. the pot. Pot, of course, is pro- nounced in the French way, but never mind.
