and Marston.)—This volume is certainly above the average of occasional poems. The versification is very good, and the feelings and sentiments. expressed are those of a highly cultivated mind. Dr. Broreton is, how- ever, most at home when dealing with the lightest themes. His "Songs of Devotion" want intensity of feeling, while the "Songs of the Affec- tions" and miscellaneous poems are very graceful and pleasing.
