Who gets the laurel?
LETTERS
From D. P. W. Cooper, Rev J. S. MacArthur, Professoi H. R. Trevor-Roper, C. B. Goodhart, Mrs M. Vaughan, Trevenen Peters, Leslie Palmier, Jonathan Shepard, Christopher Foss, K. P. Obank, Enid Lakeman, 0. C. Berthoud, David Bates, B. M. Stewart Wolff, Margaret Costa, J. McN. Dodgson.
Sir: If, as Professor H. Trevor-Roper hopes (19 May) the poet-laureateship is given to Dr A. L. Rowse, would it not be a fitting moment for the post of historiographer-royal to be revived, for the benefit of—and what more worthy candidate— the Regius Professor himself? The two gentlemen would surely make a splendid pair in harness to- gether.
