The first stone

Sir: The letter of Camilla Williams (19 March) about Bishop Blomfield gave great pleasure, but there must be some puzzle about the Bishop having laid the founda- tion stone of St Botolph's, Aldgate, since the present church was built to the design of the elder Dance in 1741-44.
