The Nottingham election terminated yesterday in the return of Sir
John 1 lobhouse ; the numbers being—for ilobhouse, 1591 ; Eagle, 566; majority for Hobhouse, 10'25.
The election for Sudbury also closed yesterday, under singular cir- cumstances; both the candidates, Sir Edward Barnes and Mr. Bag- show, having polled the same number of votes, 263; when the Mayor, who polled the first day for Sir Edward, assumed the right of giving the casting vote in favour of his friend. Sir Edward Barnes was there- fore declared to be duly returned. He was chaired amidst throwing of stones and much confusion. As night advanced, the town became more peaceable.
