Preparing the Plot

Dig over ground that will be planted with vegetables later. After spreading manure or compost, turn the soil and leave the plot to benefit from the frost. A shallot or onion bed should receive attention if it has not already done so. If poultry-manure is used on the garden, remember that it is very strong and needs to be used sparingly and that it requires the addition of potash. IAN NIALL.
