The report of the Legal and General Assurance Society shows
that there was a general expansion in business last year. The net new life and sinking fund assurances increased to £16,063,498 compared with £13,111,703. Annuity business was larger, and the total net premium income from fire, accident and miscellaneous insurances was £538,465, an increase of 148,359. The total funds of the Society increased during the year by £3,114,240 to £32,012,357. The net average rate of interest was slightly lower at £4 4s. 10d. net, and the interest credit to profit and loss at 138,791 was a little less than in 1933. The final dividend is again 5s. per share with a bonus of 2s., both tax free, bringing the year's total to 521 per cent. net, the same as for the two preceding years.
