Perhaps some people may have forgotten that as lately as

last -June. Lord Rothermere wrote a letter in which he repudiated food taxes. Sir Herbert Lidiard is once again accepted as the official Conservative candidate. Ile had repudiated the blessing of the Conservative Central Office but afterwards he repented and satisfied Mr. Neville Chamberlain by throwing over Lord Beaverbrook. In surveying this stupendous farce one marvels that the Liberals have been able to keep out of it. Had they no candidate who itched to-take his part. in the humours of such a fray ?
