From a statement issued by the Governors of the Charing
Cross Hospital, it appears that during the last year as many as 6,655 poor afflicted persons were admitted on the books for relief. Of these, 1,232 were in- patients, and 5,423 were out-patients ; many of whom during their cure were visited at their own homes. These, with the cases re- corded in former annual reports, make a total of 67,305 sick and needy individuals who have participated in the benefits of the institution from its commencement to the 31st of December 1839. The cases of acci- dent and sudden injuries which had been brought to the Hospital, have, during the last year, amounted to upwards of 1,200 ; of which 348 were so dangerous as to require to be immediately admitted as in-patients. Additional aid to the funds of the Hospital is earnestly solic:te 1 by the Governors.
