By the Registrar-General's return there were 1454 deaths in London
last week—an increase of 12 on the previous week. The average number of deaths for the corresponding weeks in the ten years 1850-59, was 1288. The mortality of last week, therefore, exceeded that average by 166. Small-pox, scarlatina, whooping-cough, and bronchitis, were the most fatal diseases. Eight persons died at the age of 90, one at 101.
