Six Songs. The Music by F. SCHUBERT; the Words (translated)
by T. OLIPHANT.
SCHUBERT is in some vogue as a vocal writer, and many of his com- positions evince considerable skill, if not genius, in this branch of his art. They arc singularly unequal, however, in merit, some being insipid enough. Of the set before us, " Let me weep again," " Ave Maria," and "The Wanderer," are the preferable specimens of their author's powers. There is a new version of " The Erl King," a German ballad which Mora: LEwis and Dr. C.tucorr brought into notice, and which perhaps may find admirers among those who love to feast on German
horrors.
