THE QUEEN AND THE STEAMERS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE SPECTATOR.
20th September 1842. is reported that the King Of the Freuch, with characteristic gal- lantry, on besting that her Majesty of England had been reduced to the neces- Jay of hiring a private steam-vessel on her return from Scotland, entnediately ,dressed an autograph letter to our beloved Sovereign, offering her the use of hie royal steam-yacht, recently constructed at Nantes, in any future marine excursions. This courtesy on the part of the illustrious Frenchman speaks volumes for the improved state of our relations with his country, consequent on Lord ABERDEEN'S presence at the Foreign Office, and illustrates in rather a re- markable way the attention our polite and scientific neighbours are paying to their steam-marine.
A glowing description of the royal French yacht appeared in the Times of this morning.
