Compton Collier

Sir: I was sad to see that in Mr Auberon Waugh's otherwise excellent article ('Another voice', 10 June), he referred to one of the most famous of outdoor chil- dren's photographers as 'he'. Miss Compton Collier was a wonderful old lady, when she last photographed my children in the 1960s, and used to produce a unique (for that time) sepia-coloured series of photo- graphs, which were quite enchanting and still remain to adorn many a happy home.
