Social work

Sir: I am exasperated but not surprised when social workers express pity for me, and instead of dealing with the content of my articles speculate about the deep motivation impelling me to write them. Their traiming encourages convoluted thinking. But for the record Mr Mulvey (6 May) is correct, I probably do equate or confuse Social Services and social work, because I have no clear idea of what the latter is, in spite of a licence to practise. Perhaps Mr Mulvey could tell me without employing 'the jargon that is the weapon of highly paid people with very little of any value to say'. June Lait
