In the House of Commons on Wednesday the Prime Minister

and Mr. Boner Law paid eloquent tributes to Lord Kitchenees services to the nation. Later some important alterations in the Chancellor of the Exchequer's original fiscal proposals were announced. In the first place, the tax on cocoa is reduced from ed. to 40. per pound. His object, said Mr. McKenna, had been to impose the same amount of tax upon a cup of cocoa as upon a cup of tea or coffee. He is now convinced that the true fiscal relation between the three commodities requires an additional 41d. on cocoa, 44d. on raw coffee, and Is. on tea. It is at this scale that the additional taxes will stand.
