THE CHURCH SELF-GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION. (To THE EDITOR OP TEL "
SPECTATOR.") SIR,—It is now some seven months since the Report of the Arch- bishops' Committee on Church and State was published. During this interval the Report has been widely discussed and many useful criticisms have been passed upon it. There is, however, a danger that if nothing more than intermittent discussion takes place little will come of the labours of the Committee. What is necessary is that the Church in all parts of the country should give careful study both to the general question raised by the publication of the Report and to the particular plan proposed. To promote this object, therefore, an Association has been founded under the title of " The Church Self-Government Association " which has no other purpose that to stimulate the discussion of the question of Church and State, with a view to securing, ulti- mately, the enactment of the plan recounueuded by the Arch- bishops' Committee, subject to any modifications which may hereafter be made by the Representative Church Council in the light of such discussions. We are no more anxious that there should be any attempt to rush the question. than that it should be put on the shelf. Our desire is to promote full discussion, so that the Church may in due time be in the position to pronounce judgment upon the details of the subject. We should therefore be much obliged if you will allow us in your columns to ask those who are in general agreement with the plan recommended by the Archbishops' Committee to join the Association. No subscription will be necessary for membership, but we would welcome any
enntribution that any sympathizer mar choose to make towards the secretarial. expenses. Names should be sent to Lord Weimer, The Church Self-Government Association, 3 Chester Gate, Regent's _Park, N.W.—We are, Sir, Ste.,
