A WHIP FOR THE WOMAN. By Ralph Straus. (Chapman and
Hall. 75. 6d.)—In his story of the making of a book, Mr. Straus tells us what happens " in the novelist's attic, the publisher's palace and the reviewer's semi- detached villa," and tells it so brilliantly and satirically that even those who are laughed at must join in the laughter. It is a superb jest.
