Sir: Paul Johnson's latest outburst literally beggars belief. If I
understand the article correctly, Mr Johnson is calling for an 'organisation of sensible people' to haran- gue and interrupt anti-Gulf war opponents in churches, theatres and other media until they are silenced. This clarion call appears to be at odds with my notion about freedom of speech and expression. If a congregation in a church do not like a sermon or an audience a play, they could simply leave or perhaps boycott it. I cannot see why anyone will
want to call Mr Johnson and his flying gag squad to shut up the show.
If in future I am unlucky enough to watch or hear something being interrupted by Mr Johnson, I expect he would do the honourable thing and reimburse me at the box office. Buying The Spectator and read- ing his harangues are bad enough. I do not want to start listening to them as well.
