year ago you were kind enough to print some lettere of mine on this subject. Will you allow me to express shortly my views on the difficulty in the present crisis ? As a Unionist Free-trader, I wish to support both Free-trade and the Union. Speakers like Mr. Long wish to make out that this is impossible, and that we must choose between these two, and ought to put the Union first. My view is that we can support both by voting for the Liberal candidate where there is no Unionist Free-trader standing. By this action we help, first, to make sure of Free-trade by returning a Liberal majority; and, second, to defend the Union by securing as large a Liberal majority as possible, and so rendering the Liberal party independent of the Irish vote.—I am, thus summarised :—
