Some of our correspondents attribute our recent remarks on volunteer
contributors to a dislike of letters, and write to remon- strate. They are entirely mistaken. The paper was not levelled at correspondents at all, but at a single class of amateur leader- writers, who, if they had to deal with them, they would dislike rather more than we do. -.Every reasonable letter is a gain to the man that reads it, whether he prints it or not.
