INCOME TAX: A CORRECTION.
(To TEA EDITOR 07 THE "SPECTATOR."] Sin,—May I be allowed to correct the statement I made in your issue of February 8th that a tenth on land imposed by Edward I. came as the next highest land tax after the Dane- geld of 1084? I had overlooked the carueage or Danegeld of Ss. in the pound imposed for the ransom of Richard I. in 1194, There was also a scutage of 21 on the knight's fee (25). That fell on the military tenants. Against that we can set the
