The exceedingly uninteresting contest for the University of Cambridge at
first ran very close. But the last returns yesterday evening, up to the end of the third day's polling, were, for Mr. Beresford-Hope, 1,4554; for Mr. Cleasby, 1,182. Still there are two days' more polling. Where the competitors are both of them bigoted Conservatives, it is somewhat difficult to see what the contest is about. Apparently, it is a contest between Conservative oddity and Conservative common-place. The latter seems to us the truest type of Conservatism.
