No. 480: Sextet

COMPETITION

Competitors are invited to compose a six-line poem, or stanza of a poem, on any one of the subjects given below, using three of the follow- ing four pairs of words as end-rhymes. The rhymes are taken from two stanzas of a well- known poem. The rhyme scheme is optional.

The rhymes: spires, fires; wall, all; prest, abreast; o'erspreads, embeds.

The subjects: the Stratford Hilton; Stansted; Lord Chorley's Street Offences Bill.

In addition to the usual prizes, a special prize of one guinea will be awarded to the first entry opened which correctly identifies the poem from which the rhymes were chosen. Entries, marked 'Competition,' must be in by 1 January.
