What an astonishingly accomplished actress is Sybil Thorndike, and bow completely satisfying in her combina- tion of expression and restraint. Never have I felt that more than when I saw her this week in a play which most of London, I suppose, saw long ago, Emlyn Williams' " The Corn is Green " at the Piccadilly. I can imagine no better war-time entertainment, for with all the lightness there is real depth of idea.
