On Monday Mrs. Villiers-Stuart was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment

without hard labour for bigamy. It will be remembered that this young woman who has just been convicted of persistent and disgraceful lying was one of the principal witnesses In the Billing trial. It was she who said that she had seen the notorious German "black book" in which the names of thousands of prominent Englishman and Englishwomen were recorded as vicious members of society. Those who were ready to lend an ear to the preposterous but widespread rumours of those few hectic days will now be able to appreciate the worth of the evidence upon which they relied.
