Sir: No one could have been more delighted than myself to read that Sir John Betjeman had been appointed to the post of Poet Laureate. In view of the impending national disaster which is to overtake this country in January it would be appropriate that his first exercise in this capacity should be entitled Lines Written in Dejection upon Entering the Common Market.'
