American debt. Taking five dollars to the pound, it was on the 1st of October 548,989,0001., bearing an interest of 27,505,0001., or very nearly the interest of our own debt. The capital of the debt .had been reduced nearly 2,548,0001. and the interest by 100,0001. since the statement of the 1st of September.
