PREPARATIONS FOR THE END OF THE WORLD.
[To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR." I SIR,—The account in the Spectator of January 14th of the panic which so curiously prevailed at Birmingham, has reminded me of my old nurse, who, I well remember, on the occasion of a heavy thunderstorm, accompanied by a very singular darkness, not only fully anticipated the immediate end of the world, but therefore went upstairs and put on her best cap ! I suppose out of respect for so solemn an occasion as the Day of Judgment.
