The Standard publishes a despatch by Senhor Aurelian° de Souza
e Oliveira Coutinho, the Brazilian Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stating the willingness of his Government to let the treaty with this country continue in force until November 1844, unless the British Government should in the interval be convinced that the interpretation of Brazil is correct,—namely, that it ought to have ceased to be in force two years sooner. The despatch, which is very friendly in style, shows that the negotiations had taken a favourable turn before the arrival of Mr. Ellis, the Special Envoy.
