This book con- tains extracts from his diaries, mainly from the earlier years. The entries referring to the period 1804-15 are, perhaps, the most interesting. There are sketches of life, sometimes offering a curious contrast to what is now familiar, and noticesiof dis- tinguished persons, Sir Francis Chantrey and James Montgomery among them.
