August, under the heading `Table talk', Sir Denis Brogan makes the following statements: 1. That Leonard Woolf was the last of the 'Blooms- berries'. 2. That Leonard Woolf `found it impossible to believe that progress had stopped and, in many ways, had gone back- wards'. 3. That Virginia Woolf expressed `contempt' for the works of James Joyce.

Anyone who has read the works of Leonard and Virginia Woolf with attention will know that these statements are untrue. Presumably, this is what Sir Denis Brogan calls 'Table talk'; but might one not find some other word for it?
