Hydrangeas and Lilacs
Prune hydrangea (paniculata grandiflora) towards the end of the month. To ensure that new shoots develop, cut out the old wood. Mulch the ground with clippings from the lawn. Lilacs will respond to treatment in spring too, and a dressing of compost or bonemeal will help, in addition to lime or chalk, where the soil has not been sweetened
