In that passage the peace terms of the Allies are
expressed with wonderful completeness and precision. It may interest readers of the Spectator to compare them with our amateur efforts. The only difference between our suggested terms and those of the Allies• is that ours were more concrete. Where. they talk of the restitution of provinces formerly torn from the Allies by force or " against the wish of their inhabitants," we speak of Alsace-Lorraine and the Danish portion of Schleswig-Holstein. But besides being less explicit than we were, the Allies' terms ara,on the whole a little less drastic than those set forth by us as the logical result of the Allies' demands for reparation and security. For example, nothing is said as to the fate of the German colonies, the Kiel Canal, or the German Mercantile Marine.
