Tests for comprehensives

Sir: Ther none so blind as he who does not wish see. However, accepting that John Todd cannot (will not?) understand what I thought was spelt out in my book in very simple language, I am sure that any college of education student would be willing to take him slowly and gently through the reasons why the number of uncreamed, well-established comprehensive schools is much smaller than the total of all schools labelled 'comprehensive' now in existence, and their geographical distribu- tion so uneven.

I regret that he should seek to justify his prejudice by ascribing unworthy motives to me; and I feel sad that any young man's mind should be, as the last paragraph of his letter (6 December) reveals, so fearful of change.
