The Servant of the Lord in Isaiah :cl.-lxvi. By John
Forbes, D.D. (T. and T. Clark, Edinburgh.)—Some forty years ago, Dr. Forbes, who is now Emeritus Professor of Oriental Languages in the University of Edinburgh, wrote a very ingenious treatise on the parallelisms of Scripture. In this he pointed out the symmetrical construction of various passages. He now applies an argument based on considerations of this kind, to "reclaim," as he puts it, the later chapters of Isaiah for the prophet of Hezekiah's reign. We cannot trace out this argument in detail, and must own that there are difficulties that seem insuperable ; but we may congratulate the veteran scholar on the vigour of mind which enables him to make this contribution to Biblical criticism.
