The Attack on Mr. Baldwin THE question of Mr. Baldwin's leadership has provided the great political excitement of the week. The papers of Wednesday published a report from the Press Association that at a meeting of Con- servative rebels at St. Stephen's Club on Tuesday evening forty-four of those present had signed the following resolution. " We, the sub-joined members of the House of Commons submit that a change of leadership is essential to the national interest." The names were given in full. Later in the day Colonel Gretton, who had presided at the meeting, announced that the report was unauthorized and inaccurate. That was to put it mildly. Some of the alleged signatories had not even been present at the meeting. There is no doubt, however, that the chief subject of discussion had been methods' of direct attack upon Mr. Baldwin at the Conservative Party
meeting called for Thursday of this week.
