SIR,—Mr. Edgell claims his version of the paragraph from the
Advertising Standards Association Report is an over-simplification. I call it a plain falsification.
To me the clear meaning is: 1. Not all the com- plaints were investigated. 2. Of those that were, 'well over half (55 per cent?) were settled to the satisfac- tion of 'the complainers. 3. The rest (45 per cent?) were not.
It seems then that probably less than half of the total number.were satisfactorily dealt with, from the complainers' standpoint.
Edgell's—but. then, he is an advertising man. No Wonder the public is sceptical of advertising claims. My simplification is very different from sir.
And thank heaven for Miss Gundrey.
