The diary of the deceased is a well- worn device, but an author new to the genre, with a nice hand at character-creation,• makes skilful use of it in this study of death in a closed shop: was it wife, brother, servant or • lame-dog protege who did the diarist in? Neat twist resolves neat puzzle, neatly written.
