£2 25. and LI Is. are offered for the most entertaining composite poems of not more than twelve lines, beginning with the line—
Who is the happy warrior? Who is he Not more than two consecutive lines may be taken from any one poem.
Alteration of punctuation is permissible, but not of text. The sources of quotations must be indicated.
RULES.—Envelopes should be addressed to the Editor, The Spectator, 99 Gower Street, London, W.C. 1, and marked " Com- petition No. 25." Entries must be delivered by first post on Friday, March 8th, 1940. The Editor reserves the right to print, in part or in whole, any envy submitted, and to withhold the prize should no entry attain the requisite standard of merit. Competitors are permitted to submit more than one entry, but no competitor is eligible for more than one prize in any given week. Envelopes should bear a till. stamp. No entries can be returned. Readers are invited to submit suggestions for future competitions.
