For some time past a series of reports have been
circulated respecting certain changes that have recently taken place in the Royal Household, and further alterations which it is alleged are about to take place. It has been represented that persons dismissed from the Royal Household have been discharged without sufficient reason, and that the pensions to which these discharged servants are entitled are lower than they can claim. The Times states that these reports are all, without exception, destitute of any foundation. Among the number of attendants that it has been found necessary to place on the retired list, there are some whose conduct would not have entitled them to any retiring allowance ; the conduct of others still retained in the Royal service has not been sa- tisfactory ; and hence the reports arose.
