Duke of Windsor
From Mrs W. S. Green
Sir: I must protest at the sentimental article on the sad story of the Duke of Windsor in your issue of June 3, especially on the slur cast on Queen Mary.
Both King George V and Queen Mary served this country with dedication and were ably followed by the late King and his Consort and now by their daughter.
Naturally it was a heartbreak for the Queen that her son was not prepared to follow the same stern path of duty especially at a time when others had to give up their domestic happiness and often their lives.
While not wishing to detract from the service the late Duke gave this country in his early days I have yet to hear of any sacrifice, personal or financial, that either he or his wife made for the benefit of the unemployed whose plight quite naturally touched him when he saw it.
